Detecting, counting, classifying and position objects; identifying shape, position,
differenced in color and surface characteristics; checking the presence of objects;

Displacement, position, angle - in industrial automation where positions have to
be precisely determined, you simply cannot beat an encoder.
The same applies when
determining speed and acceleration. Due to their working principle,
the photoelectric
scanning of optical code patterns, in linear displacement measurement
these sensors have a
resolution of micrometers and in angle measurement they have
a resolution of a few
thousandths of a degree. With less demanding tasks, of course,
they cope easily. |

ultrasonic sensors detect objects and measure distances with
high accuracy. |

An inductive proximity
sensor comprises an LC oscillating circuit, a signal evaluator,
and a switching
amplifier.The coil of this oscillating circuit generates a
high-frequency
electromagnetic
alternating field. This field is emitted at the sensing face of
the sensor. If a
metallic object (switching trigger) nears the sensing face, eddy
currents are generated.
The resultant losses draw energy from the oscillating circuit
and reduce the
oscillations. The signal evaluator behind the LC oscillating circuit
converts this
information into a clear signal. |

Capacitive proximity
sensors are able to detect both non-metallic and metallic objects.
The larger the
dielectric constant of the object, the larger the sensing range of
the sensor. Capacitive
proximity sensors can be used in the following applications: |

Magnetic proximity
sensors are characterized by the ability for large sensing distances,
available from sensors
with small dimensions. They detect magnetic objects (usually
permanent magnets) which
are used to trigger the sensing process. |
|
|
|
For many tasks in
automation technology, it is necessary to detect the movement
processes and positions
of pneumatic cylinders accurately.In response to this problem,
SICK offers special
magnetic cylinder sensors used to detect the position of pistons
in pneumatic cylinders.
They are attached directly to the piston through the housing
wall, which could be
made of aluminium, brass, or stainless steel. |

Detection of low objects, e.g. on conveyor belt. Objects, which reduce distance
from the sensing plane to the sensor, are detected to large objects. |
